Public Offshore Leaks Database

by Pam
The ICIJ (International Consortium of Investigative Journalists) have made their Offshore Leaks Database available to the public (story here).  You can search for free or download the entire thing. Every page has a place where you can report anything you find that you would like them to investigate further.  They have even provided a five minute video tutorial to make it super easy to learn how to use the database:  http://offshoreleaks.icij.org/

I've actually been keeping up with this because when I was researching the web of entities that surround the Laser game and Farzad Rastegar, many crossed through offshore entities where little, if any, information could be found.  The leaks database is not complete and there are many legitimate businesses with offshore accounts.  The ICIJ is essentially asking the public to search what we know and connect any dots we can and then bring it to their attention (confidentially) so that they can investigate further.  Naturally, I searched the web of entities surrounding the Laser game but came up empty. I did not search variations of names and they freely admit that there are plenty of typos in the data.  Perhaps others with more time, energy, and perhaps inside knowledge will have a better shot. For the record, below is the web of jurisdictions, entities, and addresses that I had previously located and I'm the first to admit that it is most likely incomplete.

  1. I'm confused. When I read the title about "offshore leaks" i though this was a post about how to take a pee when sailing on a Laser. I had no idea that anyone was compiling a database about my offshore leaks.

    1. You joke but I've actually written a piece about offshore leaks on a Laser. The trials and tribulations of being a woman sailing all day on a Laser with no proper toilet break. We have needs ... not wants ... but needs. Some days it just ain't pretty. Especially, when you are of an age where things become faulty and unpredictable. Never ask a female sailor why she isn't sailing on a particular day ... you just don't want to know.

  2. I know I've written at least one post on the issue from a male perspective too.

And I will take your last sentence to heart.

PS I'm not sailing today. I am faulty and unpredictable too. But that's not the reason.

    1. I opted not to publish my perspective. It was more of a rant to regatta organizers of why reliable onshore bathrooms breaks would increase the number of female competitors. Of course, it might not make one bit of difference too. What is the link to your post? I'm sure it was entertaining.

    2. There is one local Laser regatta locally where they do take time out in the middle of the day for a short bathroom break. I think that's mainly for the ladies on the race committee and most of the fleet doesn't go in to shore. But some do.

And when I did the SANJL Sunfish series in New Jersey, there was often a break on shore in the middle of the day.

I wonder if you are right and this is a way to attract more female competitors.

    3. I would love to hear how female single handed sailors on a wet boat that stays out all day long cope.
