Sometimes ya just gotta have fun!

By Doug
Sometimes we go sailing to compete. Sometimes we go to train. And sometimes we go just to have fun. Here we are playing at White Rock Lake on a gorgeous fall day when it was gusting up to 25.

  1. NIce video - you make it look easy to sail with 2 people in a Laser.

BTW, do you usually keep your centreboard up like that on reaching?

    1. Thanks. For the longest time, no two of our tacks were the same (bumping heads, bumping butts, etc.) Then we tried Pam going in front of the mainsheet and that works better, plus there's much less chance of her getting hit on the head.

On reaches, I keep me CB up about 1/2 way... but reaching in North America is a dying art. At the worlds, I was getting killed on the reaches.

  2. Hehe, two adults on a Laser is never easy, so well done. I was going to mention that if the crew goes in front of the main sheet, life is somewhat easier, but you already know that:) I now have a short bamboo tiller ext to save the crew from a beating! For convenience, we kept the board down. This was Ashlee's first ever sail on a Laser as she has only ever been out on our Goat Island Skiff, which has substantially more room to move about.

Here's a vid of a recent day out with my daughter on Salamander Bay, Port Stephens in about 12-14kts. http://youtu.be/0nnM_cvKXhk

    1. Thanks for your video... what a great way to spend time with Ashlee.

What type of camera were you using? And what type of mount? We're about to post another video but our mount got cold and started to shake.

  3. Hi, I used a Swann Freestyle HD. Awesome little camera which comers with a few different mounting options. It has a few more features than the GoPro, including a remote control, so I feel it is better value. Did you try the playback in 1080p HD?

I'm in the process of making a transom mount for it which I think will give a better perspective.

    1. Sorry I missed this. Yes, the HD was great. Let us know how the transom mount goes.

I love the idea of a remote to get, say, masthead shots!

    2. unable to watch the video due to EMI's copyright. Why not leave in the reals sounds - wind beating on the sails and leave out the commercial sounding crap which sounds the same as everyone else's video anyways?
